What is a La Leche League Leader & what does she do?

A La Leche League Leader is a volunteer mother who has had a specific type of breastfeeding and parenting experience, meets the prerequisites of Leadership, and has completed specific reading and introspection and finished the extensive written training curriculum established by La Leche League International. See "Leader Accreditation: Overview of Training Curriculum for Leader Accreditation" at http://www.lalecheleague.org/LAD/overview.html  for further information.

La Leche League Leaders are not healthcare professionals nor do they give medical advice. However, Leaders do have information and resources relating to medical situations that they can share.

La Leche League Leaders represent La Leche League International,  present La Leche League material, perspectives and approaches to breastfeeding. Leaders are required to plan and hold monthly meetings, help mothers one-to-one, supervise the management of the Group, keep up-to-date on breastfeeding information and encourage other mothers to become Leaders.
